Tender Moments
She usually puts herself back to sleep….so my first reaction when I heard my little Katelyn crying at 3:30am was to sigh as I lifted the warm covers off me and headed to the bathroom. I listened for a while to see if she would stop, but the crying ensued, so I went to the kitchen to make her some warm milk. When she heard the microwave she began to cry more intensely as she realized someone who could help her was near. At first she pushed the milk away and just wanted to cry and cry. I began to hold her close to me and just rock her back and forth. It was a very tender moment for me. She doesn’t allow me to do that much anymore, so instead of being “inconvenienced”, I decided to live in the moment. I thought about how there would come a day when she would be all grown up and not need me anymore, especially not to rock her. I just smiled and even teared up as I continued to rock her. She eventually took the milk, drank it down like lightning, in fact. Then she just cuddled with me. I wish I had a camera next to me so that I could capture the moment forever. She looked up at me and let out a cute little sound and I’m sure she was saying something to me, but I’ve not yet graduated to understanding her just yet. Maybe it was “thank you”. I just laid with her for a while and then she started to gently rub her eyes and suck her thumb and I knew that I needed to put her down. I psyched myself up for it because I knew she would cry at first. I put her down and she began to sob, and I almost gave in, but she was quiet within five minutes. It was such an amazing experience to be able to hold her like that again. Motherhood….wow.
